About Morandi
At Morandi, we believe the most extraordinary designs already exist — in the crystalline geometry of a snowflake, the spiralling precision of a nautilus shell, the fractal elegance of frost on glass. Our work begins where nature's mathematics meets human craft. Founded in 2020, Morandi is a design studio dedicated to translating the hidden geometries of the natural world into lighting and objects of enduring beauty. Every piece is a dialogue between organic form and quiet precision — objects that feel as though they were grown rather than made.
The Vessel and the Light
Our name is an homage to Giorgio Morandi, the Italian painter who spent forty years painting almost nothing but bottles, jars and bowls — the same quiet vessels, arranged and rearranged in soft, patient light. His true subject was never the objects. It was the light that gathered around them, and the stillness it made. Across a lifetime, Morandi painted exactly two things: the vessel, and the light.
We began with the vessels — a handful of vases shaped in his spirit, which found homes faster than we could make them. The soft light they were photographed in became the next thing we made. Today we craft both: vases that hold form and shadow, and lighting that holds warmth and atmosphere. They are not two collections that happen to share a name. They are the two halves of one still life — and your home is where you arrange it.
Designed by Nature
Nature does not decorate. It structures. The branching of a river delta, the tessellation of a honeycomb, the minimal surfaces of soap films — these are not ornamental choices but optimal solutions refined over millennia. Our collections draw directly from these principles. The Cristallo series captures the six-fold symmetry of ice crystals, the same geometry that gives every snowflake its singular identity. The Lamella collection traces the fluid contours of glacial erosion, where ages of natural force carve forms of quiet, irreducible elegance. The result is lighting and sculpture that embodies nature's own logic: complex in detail, harmonious in whole.
Craft & Material
We work exclusively with bio-based materials derived from renewable resources — plant-based, drawn from corn starch, tapioca and sugarcane. These materials are not a compromise; they are a deliberate choice. They offer exceptional surface quality, structural integrity, and a warm, organic luminosity that synthetic materials cannot replicate. Each piece is finished to a precision that honours the natural form that inspired it — every curve, every layer, every surface.
Light & Shadow
A Morandi object transforms a space twice: first through its sculptural presence, and again when illuminated. The interplay of light and shadow is not incidental — it is integral to every design. Our lighting casts intricate, evolving patterns across walls and ceilings, turning a room into a place of quiet wonder. Even unlit, each piece holds its own as sculpture. Switched on, it becomes something else entirely — a living geometry of light that shifts with the hour and the angle of the eye.
Sustainability
Sustainability is not a feature we add. It is the foundation we build on. Every Morandi piece is made from plant-based materials drawn from renewable resources, and every order ships registered and fully insured, worldwide. We believe objects of lasting beauty should not come at the cost of the world that inspires them.
